ROSIE & REGGIE, LENA & FOXY Recovering from a life of horror by Barkinside "Now their journey to a new life begins" Towards the end of November we were told about several dogs who were in a desperate situation and needed our help urgently. Barkinside responded immediately. After a long and difficult struggle we had four new babies taking sanctuary with us. This is their story, and a gentle appeal for help with our escalating costs. The 12th of December 2024 marks a milestone in the amazing story of the recovery of the four new dogs that came to join Barkinside two weeks ago. It was an especially big day for the amazing Little Foxy and our beautiful old girl Lena who were both rescued together. Similarly to many of you, our basic running costs have increased sharply recently (for example our vets bills, which despite the kindness of our amazing vets, now run into the thousands of Euros every month. OUR MONTHLY VETS BILLS HAVE ALMOST DOUBLED BUT OUR INCOME HAS NOT We dont need to tell you that the economic outlook is bleak and shows no signs of slowing up. But giving in or stopping what we do is not an option for Barkinside. We cannot turn our back on the never ending flow of new cases who are desperate for our help, we also cannot suddenly withdraw the help and support for those who are permanent residents at the Sanctuary. Its not something we can consider. Our residents have experienced nothing except hellish conditions and abuse their entire lives. Their naturally trusting and loving natures have made them vulnerable to all kinds physical and mental violation. It is imperative that they have no doubt that never again will the trust they put in us be broken. Our commitment to them is for the whole of their lifetime, unfortunately maintaining this costs a lot of money. Paraíso del Perro PELUQUERIA CANINA Where dogs are pampered like true VIPs Met de 34 jaar (Jacqueline Roberts) in deze rol, waarvan 9 in Spanje, kan ik met trots zeggen dat ik het voorrecht en de eer heb gehad om betrokken te zijn bij het redden van de levens van meer dan 600 honden! Zonder hulp had ik dit niet kunnen doen! Bij Barkinside hebben we het geluk dat we een geweldige groep supporters en vrijwilligers achter ons hebben, die altijd klaar staan om in een mum van tijd te reageren om ervoor te zorgen dat de reddingsacties doorgaan en succesvol zijn. Hun eindeloze vriendelijkheid biedt ons een breed scala aan fysieke, emotionele en financiële steun zonder dewelke we moeite zouden hebben om te blijven doen wat we doen. Voor dit alles zijn wijzelf en de dieren onder onze zorg meer dan dankbaar. Een deel van dit geweldige ondersteuningsnetwerk is Paraíso del Perro, een vrijwillige hondentrimservice gerund door Machteld De Dier. Machteld omschrijft zichzelf als een professionele en gepassioneerde hondentrimster en vrijwilligster met een grote liefde voor onze viervoeters. Wij kennen haar als iemand die haar geweldige trimservice vrijwillig schenkt aan de honden die wij verzorgen, iets waar ieder van hen uiteraard met volle teugen van geniet. Haar professionele en diep medelevende aanpak geeft de dieren de kans om iemand te vertrouwen, vaak voor het eerst in lange tijd. Op magische wijze schept haar warme en liefdevolle benadering genoeg vertrouwen voor de honden om die eerste aanraking toe te laten en om de zorg en genezing te voelen die het hen biedt. Paraíso del Perro kan hen tonen dat hun onaangename, kwetsende en soms pijnlijke fysieke contact met mensen van voorheen voorbij is. Haar aanraking geeft hen hoop. Vanuit dit kleine vonkje veranderen ze snel in liefdevolle, vertrouwende wezens. Er is geen enkele hond wiens vertrouwen Machteld niet heeft weten te winnen. Wat ik doe: Reddingshonden: ik stel mijn vaardigheden ten dienste van verschillende reddingsorganisaties, dit ter verzorging van reddingshonden die nog steeds wachten op hun eeuwige thuis.. Honden bij pleeggezinnen: deze schattige pups of grotere honden krijgen ook een koninklijke behandeling! Casa de Griffon Creating awareness of the plight of the beautiful Spanish dog known as Griffons Hi, I have run Casa de Griffon for 5 years, heres a bit about my background in animal rescue. After fostering several griffons in England and hearing about the terrible abuse that Spanish Griffon Dogs go through, I decided to make the move to Galicia, northern Spain. Casa de griffon was set up 5 years ago to save as many dogs as possible from the horrendous abuse that they suffer here. Since arriving Casa de Griffon has taken care of over 500 dogs in all shapes and sizes Over Paraíso del Perro The Galicians are a large hunting province and their dogs of choice tend to be Griffons, Beagles and Podencos. The pounds are overflowing with several hundred dogs who are locked in concrete cages 24/7 unless they are released to adopters and rescuers. From pregnant old girls to ex hunting dogs who have been beaten and tied to short chains, this is the continual abuse these beautiful dogs have to endure. Just over two years ago, a property was found in northern Galicia and we have been busy building indoor enclosures and secure outdoor exercise areas where the dogs are assessed and rehabilitated so they can be adopted to the forever homes.
